After a very controversial round of elections in 2016, and three years spent with Donald Trump as president, the United States is split in two. On one hand, you have the supporters of the actual political leadership that think building a wall on the Mexican border and not giving a damn about global warming is a good idea. However, most intellectuals, as well as the stars in the USA, are openly against Trump and some of them may even consider running for president in the upcoming elections of November 2020.
It may sound like a joke, however, the Americans that are against Trump are ready to do everything it takes to make sure he won't get another mandate as president of the United States of America. Also, some of the personalities that indicated they may be ready to participate in the upcoming elections, would make really good politicians. Let's take a look at some of the biggest names on the list.
Katy Perry
The singer was extremely vocal during the 2016 election and afterwards as a very involved supporter of Hillary Clinton. Of course, from supporting one of the candidates up until the point she will participate in the race herself is a long way to go. However, the Instagram post she shared depicting her with former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton with the caption " 42, 43, 46 ?!" could be a hint towards her intentions. For those of you that are not following the elections or are not up to date with what that caption means, it's the order in which presidents of the USA came into office. With Bush Jr being the 43rd president of the United States and Clinton the 42nd, the 46th in the caption is clearly referring to the next president after Donald Trump.
Susan Sarandon
Extremely involved in politics in recent years, Susan Sarandon is another potential candidate for the White House spot in future elections. If Katy Perry is vocal against Trump, this time we are dealing with a celebrity that supports the current president of the United States and even declared that Trump inspired more women and people of colour to run for office. While a clear intention to become a solid candidate was not expressed publicly, with such an active presence in the political field, everything is possible.
Kanye West
The rapper already announced his intentions to run for office at the MTV Video Music Awards when he declared " Yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president." Even though this statement caused a lot of friction for in the media, there wasn't much to follow from Kanye. He then said that he doesn't have a view on politics but he does have a view on Humanity in a BBC radio interview. Another statement that can be interpreted towards running for office is - "If there is anything that I can do with my time to somehow make a difference while I'm still alive, I'm all for it."
George Clooney
Another big Hollywood actor that may take the opportunity to run for office is George Clooney. After the recent Florida school shootings and even before, George Clooney and his wife became more and more present in the political landscape of the country. However, the comments he made about running were classified as a joke by him and even when media and fans tried to push it, he cleared any confusion in the Variety interview in which he made it clear he doesn't think having stars as presidents is a good idea.
Dwayne Rock Johnson
Being immensely loved in the United States due to his long career in Wrestling which took a turn towards Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson is certainly charismatic enough to become the president of the United States. However, from being capable of pulling the feat to actually doing it, there's a long distance. The Rock himself stated that for the moment he wants to have an impact on the world through entertainment and maybe at a point he will do so through politics.
Mark Zuckerberg
Apparently having a strong connection with president Trump since he was elected and being involved in the big data scandal around Facebook and the 2016 elections, isn't a reason for some people to stay away from the seat that will become vacant in November 2020. The CEO of Facebook didn't express intentions to make a move into politics, however, the didn't deny that possibility either.
Oprah Winfrey
Even though she initially declared that she did not even consider the option of running for office despite being asked by several fans to do so, Oprah seemed to have a change of heart after Trump became president. A recent interview in which she stated that ' I thought, "Oh gee, I don't have the experience .. " And now I'm thinking, "oh", looks like she might not be out of the race. Also, if you add the speech at the 2018 Golden Globes to the mix, you get quite a powerful candidate right there.
