Lionel Messi will be handed a massive contract valued at £175m to end his career at Barcelona.
According to UK Sun club president Josep Maria Bartomeu hinted that Catalan giants are ready to offer Messi a long-term deal to keep him at the Spanish club until the end of his career.
At the last count, Messi's current contract with the Blaugrana runs out in 2021, but there moves the 31-year-old will pen an extension.
Presently, Messi is reportedly pocketing about £500,000-a-week at Barcelona, summing up about £26m annually.
Interestingly, if Barcelona maintain the same salary structure in a five-year deal, Messi will earn £130m, alongside a bonus of £45m - the amount he reportedly pocketed after signing a new deal.
Speaking about Barca's plan for Messi, who debuted for the Blaugrana in 2004, Bartomeu told ESPN that they are eager to extend his contract.
"We want him to have a really long career so we can keep on enjoying him.
"Lionel's managed to break down borders. Everyone admires him and he's applauded at other stadiums by rival fans.
"We would like to renew his contract, that's the idea. He is young - you can see that [in his performances] - and he still has two years on his deal.
"He's always improving, always innovating. I believe he still has many years in front of him and in the coming months we will sit down with him so that he has many more years at Barcelona.
"Messi is a one-club man. It's more than what he does on the pitch - his relationship with Barca will last forever. I use the example of Pele, who was always at Santos.
"We want Messi to always be at Barca, whether that's playing or linked to the club [when he's retired]."
Messi has been in top form this campaign with 42 goals and 21 assists in 39 games across all competitions.
