Lionel Messi breaks important Cristiano Ronaldo's record after Villarreal stunner

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has broken yet another record in top five European Leagues after scoring one of his side's goals against Villarreal on Tuesday, April 2.

The 31-year-old came on in the 61st minute and scored a stunner from a free-kick in the 90th minute, before Luis Suarez finally rescued a point for the visitors through his 93rd minute long range shot.

His goal tally is now 42 goals this campaign, with 14 assists after 38 matches in all competitions this campaign.

Messi didn't just stop at increasing his goal tally after the game, he has also became the highest goals scorer in top five European Leagues with 415 goals according to OptaJose.

This is one better than his arch rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Italian League champions Juventus.

The Portuguese forward made his debut in the top five league after joining Manchester United in 2013, while Messi made his La Liga debut one year later.

Messi, who is currently Barca's captain is expected to keep hold on the record over the former Real Madrid forward.
