Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed city rivals Manchester City to win the Premier League title at the end of this season.
The Citizens are currently second on the log with 74 points after 30 matches - two points behind Liverpool with one match in hand.
And they are few matches away from winning the silverware back to back for the first time after the Red Devils who won it three times on a bounce from 2006-07 to 2008-09.
And the 40-year-old, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford with six English topflight titles admit he prefers their city rivals to lift this campaign.
United are presently fifth on the log at the moment with 58 points, just two points behind Arsenal with less than ten matches to wrap up this term.
"This is the worst possible case scenario for someone that likes Man United, supports Man United and has played for Man United, and I'm a pundit that's got to speak about it publicly and squirm and what not," Ferdinand told The Daily Mirror.
"So the better of the two evils is Manchester City winning the league as I've seen it, I've been part of it "
Ferdinand also admitted that Liverpool winning the would be 'a lot more painful', claiming even more fans would pop up simply to gloat about winning the title.
He added: ' With Liverpool it's a different story .
' There's fans I didn't even know supported Liverpool that have come back out of the woodwork after 20 years of being silent that are starting to speak before they've won anything so it'd be a lot more painful to see them win the league .
"But listen the best team will win it and whoever that is well done. "
