Romelu Lukaku has rubbished reports that he had a bust-up with Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba after the Frenchman took and missed a penalty at the weekend.
Lukaku netted a brace in Saturday's thrilling 3-2 win over Southampton and had the perfect opportunity to complete his hat-trick when the hosts were awarded a spot-kick in injury time.
However, designated penalty taker Pogba stepped up instead and saw his tame effort saved by Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn, hitting the ball straight down the middle of goal.
Afterwards, The Sun claimed that Lukaku was furious with Pogba for not stepping aside and the row had to be broken up by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It was even suggested that Lukaku claimed he would have offered the spot-kick to Pogba if the roles were reversed, and cited Liverpool star Mohamed Salah letting Roberto Firmino bag his hat-trick from the spot back in December.
But Lukaku has hit out at the reports on Twitter, writing: 'When the hate don't work they start telling lies...'
The two players are believed to be close friends off the pitch, with Pogba influential in Lukaku's decision to move to Old Trafford despite significant interest from Chelsea.
Lukaku even said after the match that he was happy for Pogba to take the penalty, telling the BBC: 'I am a striker and I wanted Paul to score the penalty, he has been on a good run. He is an important player for us and will bounce back.'
There will be no arguments over who takes the penalty on Wednesday night in Paris, with Pogba suspended and Lukaku set to lead the line.
