Two Southampton fans have reportedly been detained after making a gesture mocking departed Cardiff City star, Emiliano Sala.
Cardiff signed Sala for a record fee during the January window transfer from Nantes but never got a chance to kick a ball with the Premier League side.
The Argentine star was confirmed dead after a body pulled from his ill-fated plane was identified as his on Friday, February 8, by investigators.
However, the striker's initial disappearance and subsequent death did not dampen Cardiff in their pursuit to get out of relegation zone as they battled Southampton to a 2-1 victory at St. Mary's.
But the good mood was stifled after a Southampton fan cruelly mocked the death of the Argentinian.
The fan could be seen doing an airplane motion in the stands in an apparent reference to Sala's plane that disappeared near the British island of Guernsey on January 21.
His club has since released a statement on the incident, confirming that two of their fans have since been detained and taken by police.
"The club will be taking an extremely firm stance against anyone involved and intends to ban those supporters identified," the statement said.
The club further maintained they will not condone such indecent gestures towards Cardiff supporters.
