Sala's father in terrible state after plane carrying his son is discovered

Emiliano Sala's father Horacio has revealed the trauma he is going through after plane carrying his son was found on the seabed of the English channel.

The wreckage of the Piper Malibu aircraft carrying Sala and pilot David Ibbotson was discovered on Sunday, February 3.

"I can not believe it. This is a dream. A bad dream. I'm desperate.

"I communicated with them every day, but since I do not have Whatsapp it's hard to call them or call me.

"They told me that the days passed and there was no news of Emiliano or the plane," Horacio told Cronica TV in Argentina.

The search was initially called off by Guernsey Police but funds were raised four days later to support a private team to continue looking for the plane.

The Argentine striker just signed for Premier League club Cardiff in a club-record deal worth £15million before returning to his French side Nantes to say goodbye to his former teammates and staff.

Sala was on his way back to South Wales when the aircraft went missing over the channel.

A renowned shipwreck hunter who headed the private search for Sala, David Mearns, tweeted:

"Wreckage of the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and piloted by David Ibbotson was located early this morning by the FPV MORVEN.

"As agreed with the AAIB they moved the GEO OCEAN III over the position we provided them to visually identify the plane by ROV.

"The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by Police. The AAIB will be making a statement tomorrow. Tonight our sole thoughts are with the families and friends of Emiliano and David."

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Mearns added: "Our job is done. This is an active investigation now in the hands of the AAIB, and they will be taking over as agreed.

"We've had a long trip back and all I could think about was the families. This is what they wanted us to do, we've achieved it and that's the best we could have hoped for - the best outcome.

"An incredibly tragic and sad, and a devastating moment, but at least some of their questions will be answered because of what we will be able to do today."
