Founded 47 years ago, the Nigeria Professional Football League is the highest level of the Nigerian football system in which 20 teams take part in the League, as it is done in many parts of the world.
But unlike in Europe where private investors are the owners of most teams, it is not like that in Nigeria as 90 percent of the topflight clubs are owned by the government.
The League Management Company (LMC) are currently the governing body in charge of the Nigerian Football League headed by Shehu Dikko and Ndukka Iraboh.
Before the creation of this body by the former Sports minister Bolaji Abdullahi, the country's topflight football was known as the Nigerian Premier League under the leadership of Rumson Baribote.
How do Nigerian clubs do recruitment?
All the Nigerian League clubs do their recruitment before the start of the term in which each team are expected to register 35 players to campaign in a season.
The transfer window in the Nigerian League comes after week 19 games in which clubs will still have the chance to drop players or bring in fresh legs so as to bolster their squads.
And do Nigerian clubs do trials for youngsters?
Absolutely yes, most clubs in the Nigerian Professional Football League allow talented players to exhibit their talents and also bring them into the team.
Clubs like ABS FC, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, Gombe United, Elkanemi Warriors always give room for youngsters to come for trials and also sign them before the start of the season.
In fact, many clubs will declare their camp open for young players to come and show their skills in which good ones among them will be picked.
Players like Lordson Ichull of Sunshine Stars, Ismaila Gata of Wikki Tourists, Abu Muazu of Gombe United, Alalade of Enyimba and Idiamin of Nasarawa United are some of the youngsters in the Nigerian League who were discovered through trials.
