"I don't give a damn who you are. This is America, Jack. And I'ma break my foot off in your royal ass." - Cleo McDowell
One of your favourite classic Coming To America is making a comeback with its sequel.
At the moment things are looking up as it has been confirmed that Eddie Murphy (Akeem Joffer), the prince himself, will be a cast in the sequel.
It should be recalled that there were plans for a spin-off TV show in 1989 but that never happened. 30 years later, Craig Brewer will be onboard as the director for its sequel.
Murphy confirming this wrote,
"After many years of anticipation, I'm thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We've assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I'm looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen."
Other cast Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones and John Amos are expected to make a return.
An excited Brewer is replacing Jonathan Levine who was originally chosen as its director. He confirmed this via his Instagram:
According to Deadline, Prince Akeem discovers that there is a long-lost heir to the kingdom of Zamunda and must head back to America where he is.
The 1988 film Coming to America upon its release became the highest grossing film in the United States, topped several box office charts, $28 million in five days and $288,752,301 in total.
No production date has been released but it is expected that shooting will start this year.
