Meet 12-year-old Nigerian girl who is breaking records in power-lifting (photos)

This comes few weeks after the JSSI student picked up gold medal at the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abuja.

The event is scheduled to hold from January 28 to 30 at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

Nigeria will be showcasing 60 athletes 20 new revelations and 40 renowned and celebrated power-lifters who will compete against 10 other nations.

Speaking at an event in Lagos, president of the Para-powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, Queen Uboh, said ten countries have confirmed their participation in the competition and there will be ten classes to compete for, with 20 gold medals at stake.

This comes even as a prize tag of $2500 for gold, $1500 for silver and $1000 for Bronze has been set for winners of the event.

Also, as part of its support for the event, major sponsor Peak has procured an IPC (International Paralympic Committee) approved mobility bus, with the capacity to seat 12 people and 15 wheelchairs.

Another major sponsor Total Nigeria PLC have promised to provide new equipment for the event.

Other sponsors include Heritage Bank (official bank of the team), Sterling Insurance, Incentive Media, AirFrance KLM, GinKlat Capsule, Lagace (official water of the team), and Ministry of youth and sports.

This will be the first Para-powerlifting International Competition to be staged in Nigeria.

Nigeria currently has some of the best para powerlifters in the world in both the male and female categories.
