Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo may reject the opportunity to return to Santiago Bernabeu this weekend to watch the Copa Libertadores final with Lionel Messi.
According to UK Sun report, the 33-year-old Ronaldo and the 31-year-old Messi have asked for match tickets from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) which holds on Sunday, December 9.
But top Spanish news channel AS are suggesting that Ronaldo may opt out of a return to the Bernabeu following the manner he left Los Blancos last summer after 9-year stint at the Spanish capital.
"Cristiano would be delighted to accept the RFEF's invitation and watch the game alongside Messi in the VIP lounge but the wounds of his exit have not completely healed over," a close source was quoted as saying by AS.
Interestingly, the former five-time world best player Ronaldo sealed a switch to join Juventus in an £88.3 million deal from Real Madrid last summer.
The Portuguese star after his departure from the Spanish topflight revealed that Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez did not want him to remain at the club.
Further reports disclosed issues bothering on salary and other financial matters contributed in forcing Ronaldo leave the Galaticos after winning four Champions League trophies.
Perez was looking forward to sit Messi and Ronaldo in a presidential box for the River Plate and Boca Juniors showdown.
Their first game ended in a 2-2 draw at Boca Juniors La Bombonera stadium, however, in the reverse fixture River Plate fans attacked Boca Juniors team bus hours before the match.
At the end, the pair of Boca Juniors captain Pablo Perez and teammate Gonzalo Lamardo sustained various degree of injuries that saw them require treatment to their eyes as glass was smashed during the attack.
The match could not hold after the mayhem and was later transferred to a neutral ground in Madrid over safety concerns.
