Ballon d'Or winner for 2018, Luka Modric, has revealed the impact of former Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, to his success.
Wenger had the chance to sign Modric but the Frenchman rejected the player.
The Croatia international beat former teammate at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award on Monday night after a stunning 2018 which saw him win the Champions League.
The Real Madrid star also helped Croatia to the World Cup final.
Modric said Wenger's rejection served as a motivation to go all the way to become best player in the world.
"I took Wenger's rejection as a new hurdle to overcome," Modric told Express Sports.
"That was his opinion on me at that moment."
Modric helped Real Madrid to their third Champions League title in a row last season
