Current Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric has revealed the names of two nominees that congratulated him after scooping the award.
The Real Madrid midfielder broke the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's ten-year dominance in the ceremony after Brazil's Kaka last won it in 2007.
And French duo of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe were quick to praise the Croatian for getting the most coveted individual accolade.
Modric revealed (via Marca), "[Antoine] Griezmann and [Kylian] Mbappe have congratulated me, it's a dream year."
He added, "It's difficult to find the words to express how I feel."
"I'm very happy and grateful to everyone who recognized my journey. I held back the tears, it's been an exceptional night to form part of these players who have won this prize."
The 33-year-old had an incredible year for club and country where he won the Champions League with Los Blancos and played in the World Cup final in Russia which won him the UEFA Best Player of the Year award as well as The Best FIFA Men's Player award.
The top five players were completed by Juventus ace Ronaldo, Atletico Madrid's striker Griezmann, Paris Saint-Germain's jewel Mbappe and Barcelona's star man Messi.
Modric also added he wants to win more trophies for Real Madrid and is looking forward to the Club World: "As a person I want more with my team, starting with the World Club Cup."
The Croatian captain is expected to be on parade when Los Merengues take on UD Melilla in a Copa del Rey clash on Thursday, November 6.
