Last week, Lagos pastor, Chris Oyakhilome, gave his daughter, Carissa's hand in marriage to her Gahanian beau, Phillip Frimpong.
Oyakhilome's divorced wife, Anita, was conspicuously absent at the wedding. Many Nigerians took to Instagram to ask why Anita was not there, if she and pastor Chris have not forgiven each other after their divorce, and also called for the clergyman and his wife to come back together.
Now, popular gospel artiste and the convener of the "Olowogbogboro online crusade", Nathaniel Bassey, in response to a comment from an IG user who inquired why the former Mrs Oyakhilome was not present, said people should focus more on God restoring the failed marriage.
"While I noticed that myself too, I took sometime in my hotel room here praying that God restored that marriage. Let me ask? Have you too? And is this comment genuinely out of love and concern? Or is this just a comment to stir up strife? Long time ago, I made up my mind to be a KINGDOM man, and not just denominational. There is too much stuff and division in the body. So, take sometime believing in the restoration of that home in Jesus name"Nathaniel Bassey wrote
Reacting to the gospel singer's comment, Freeze in a live video on IG, said that pastors should stop praying for people's marriages to be healed. He made reference to his failed marriage to his ex-wife.
According to him, anyone who is praying that he leaves his current wife and go back to his first wife, "God will punish such a person and that nothing in that person's life will work." Freeze said he has since leant that himself and his ex-wife were not compatible.
Freeze also mentioned that Jesus never prayed for people's marriages to be healed. He drew his explanation from the Samarian woman who had five husbands and the man who she was living with when she met Jesus by the well, was not her husband.
Freeze said Jesus treated the woman with so much respect despite the fact that she had been divorced five times. He noted that throughout the meeting with the woman, Jesus never prayed for the woman's previous marriages to be healed. The OAP said if it was important for the woman's marriages to have been restored, Jesus would have mentioned it and the bible would have recorded it.
He said it is better for the people involved in failed marriages, to pray for their restoration, instead of outsiders who do not have an idea of what transpired in the marriage to offer prayers.
According to him, praying for a couple that know they are not compatible to come back together in marriage is wicked.
