Real Madrid are the most successful team in the Champions League history winning the championship 13 times and they are also the reigning champions after beating Liverpool in Kiev.
But this season, Real Madrid are currently struggling both in the Spanish La Liga and in the Champions League and here we bring you seven reasons why the club won't win the UCL this season.
1. Absence of Ronaldo
Many Real Madrid fans are still furious at the management of the club for their failure to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at the club before joining Italian champions Juventus.
Real Madrid are currently missing the Portugal international, and on the other hand, Ronaldo is in the best form of his life for Juventus.
2. Bale's injury woes and form
In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale is the next player Real Madrid fans rely on, but injury and lack of form this season has made the former Tottenham star recently unavailable for selection.
Some Real Madrid fans believed Gareth Bale would have prevented Real Madrid from a defeat against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night if he had played.
3. Benzema's goal scoring woes
Cristiano Ronaldo has been the one who had covered Frenchman Karim Benzema at the Bernabeu, but since his departure, Benzema has failed to find his rhythm for Real Madrid as he also lost many scoring chances on Tuesday night against CSKA Moscow.
4. Losing Zinedine Zidane
Real Madrid are currently facing the consequence of the resignation of Frenchman Zinedine Zidane as new manager Julen Lopetegui is still battling to deliver for Los Blancos this season in all competitions.
5. Issues with defense
Real Madrid are currently not having it rosy with their defense this season in all competitions as the likes of Sergio Ramos, Varane, and Marcelo are yet to get their best form which helped Los Blancos to win the Champions League last season.
Even defensive midfielder Casemiro that was superb last season is currently not in his best form and it showed against CSKA Moscow as Real Madrid coach was forced to remove him for Luka Modric.
6. Over reliance on the midfield
Last season, Real Madrid won most of their games in the Champions League because of the superb form of their midfielders, but this term, the likes of Daniel Caballos, Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Isco are struggling for form which is affecting the Spanish club.
7. Their luck has changed
During their campaign last term, Real Madrid came from behind to win many of their games, but this season, the luck seems to be against them as many of their fans would have thought that Los Blancos would come back in their embarrassing defeats against Sevilla and CSKA Moscow, but they could not.
