Jose Mourinho's belittling remarks about Phil Jones and Eric Bailly has surprised their Manchester United teammates.
The England defender missed his spot-kick in United's 8-7 loss to Derby County in Tuesday's Carabao Cup with Bailly waiting his turn.
The public ridiculing of both center-backs has had much negative effects on other members of the squad.
And boss Mourinho admitted: "I knew we were going to be in trouble with Jones and with Eric. I knew we were going to be in trouble then."
Mourinho also told Paul Pogba he will never captain the Red Devils and subsequently, they had a spat at each other in training in front of TV cameras.
The World Cup winner's relationship with the Portuguese manager has been strained since last season's Champions League round of 16 clash with Sevilla.
Now Jones' penalty which was saved by Scott Carson has been another subject of discussion .
Previuosly, eyebrows have been raised about Marcus Rashford's limited playing time in a United shirt, unlike the national team.
However, Luke Shaw, who has been condemned to the bench by the manager has now got back into Mourinho's good books.
He has now started five Premier League games this season and scored in United' opening day victory over Leicester City.
But Pogba could be back in contention for a starting place against West Ham after missing out in the Carabao Cup
