A referee named Abdul Razak was brutally attacked by players in the Indonesian league after awarding a penalty.
The incident took place during a match between relegation threatened Persegres Gresik United against Persiwa Wamena.
Razak gave a penalty to Gresik which angered Persiwa's players as they began to chase him around the pitch.
As reported by the local media, one of the players got hold of his shirt and removed it as others began the shove the referee as he was punched and kicked in the process.
Razak was finally knocked to the ground by a flying kick and is then kicked while lying on the turf.
However he eventually escaped and ran off the pitch and incredibly returned to officiate the game.
Then, two Persiwa players were sent off and the awarded-penalty was eventually taken and scored as Gresik held on to the lead to claim the victory
There were verbal attacks on the referee after the blast of the final whistle as Persiwa's coach Suimin Diharja said the referee had "stolen" a point from them.
No sanctions have been placed on either club yet as Persiwa remain bottom of the Liga 2 while Gresik are still in the relegation zone.
