Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba's exchange at Manchester United training ground was down to Instagram post

Jose Mourinho's training ground exchange with Paul Pogba was down to an Instagram post, it has emerged.

Relations between the Manchester United manager and £89million midfielder appear to have hit a new low after they were captured on video on Wednesday having a tense-looking discussion.

Pogba, who reportedly wants to leave Old Trafford and join Barcelona, said after Saturday's home draw with Wolves that United should "attack, attack, attack", leading Mourinho to strip the World Cup winner of the vice-captaincy.

Mourinho denied any falling out with Pogba when confirming the decision to take leadership duties away from the 25-year-old following Tuesday night's shock Carabao Cup defeat to Derby, but Sky Sports' footage from training the following morning suggests all is not well.

Pogba was seen shaking hands with coach Michael Carrick, Mourinho and a member of United's media team, before looking taken aback by something the manager said.

Pogba then had an apparently exasperated discussion with Mourinho in a clip viewed four million times in little more than three hours on one of the channel's Twitter posts.

It has now been revealed that the latest tension between the two was down to an Instagram post uploaded by Pogba during United's defeat by Derby.

The former Juventus star uploaded a video himself and Andreas Pereira laughing while they sat in the stands at Old Trafford.

It clearly riled Mourinho, whose side crashed out on penalties, with the Portuguese calling over club press officer John Allen in training on Wednesday and asking: "When did Paul post on Instagram?"

It appeared to baffle Pogba and led to the frosty exchange between them, which you can watch below.

Sources close to the club have not been surprised by this week's developments, but this would not be the first time Mourinho's man-management has shocked his players.

United would not comment on Wednesday's footage, but the manager will be confronted about it when he faces the press to preview the weekend trip to West Ham.
