Ed Woodward insists Manchester United will remain competitive at the top end of the transfer market despite failing to deliver several of Jose Mourinho's primary targets last summer.
Mourinho was keen to bring in an experienced centre-half and a winger, having reportedly advised the club to sell Anthony Martial whose agent had criticised the United manager's handling of his client.
United revealed a record revenue of £590million for the fourth quarter in their latest financial results but spent a comparatively measly £72.5 million, despite finishing last season 19 points behind Manchester City, in the close season on Brazil international midfield Fred and 19-year-old Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot.
Mourinho's side has made an inconsistent start to the new campaign, collecting just 10 points from six fixtures, but Woodward hinted the club's embattled manager can expect significant funds when the transfer window reopens in January.
'Everyone at the club is working tirelessly to add to Manchester United's 66 and Jose's 25 trophies,' Woodward said.
'That is what our passionate fans and our history demands.
'We are committed to our philosophy of blending top academy graduates with world-class players and are proud that, once again, last season we had more academy graduate minutes on the pitch than any other Premier League club.
'Our increased revenue expectation for the year demonstrates our continued strong long-term financial performance which underpins everything we do and allows us to compete for top talent in an increasingly competitive transfer market.'
