     Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juventus teammates were victims of an attack in the early hours of Wednesday ahead of their UEFA Champions League showdown against Valencia.

According a Daily Mail report, a group of locals around the team base in Valencia set off fireworks that affected the squad members from their night rest.

"A group of people set off firecrackers and bangers outside the hotel at around three in the morning. They were also holding a banner insulting Juventus, " a local government representative Juan Carlos Fulgencio was quoted as saying.

"It was a small incident, a simple case of hooliganism,"[/i [ added Fulgencio, who refused speaking further on the issue.

However, Fulgencio revealed that security around the Serie A champions was further beefed up expected to last for the duration of their stay in the Spanish city.
Attempts to get Juventus reaction on the incident proved abortive as they failed to respond to both emails and phone calls.

Interestingly, Valencia are staging a comeback to the Champions League after missing out since three years.
On the other hand, Ronaldo, who is the topscorer in the premier club competition, will be marking his Champions League debut since the Turin-based outfit since leaving the Los Blancos in the summer for a reported fee of £100m.
