Liverpool 3-2 PSG: Jurgen Klopp told players to target Neymar's left wing

Liverpool players planned before the game to target Neymar's left wing, Jurgen Klopprevealed after a dramatic 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.

Neymar was guilty of failing to track back for almost the entirety of the game and Klopp confirmed he had told his players to use the space the Brazilian leaves behind him.

Goals from Daniel Sturridge and James Milner put Liverpool in control, before PSG came back to level the game, in part thanks to sloppy Liverpool errors.

Roberto Firmino came off the bench to score an injury-time winner and Klopp explained after the victory his side knew they could attack down Neymar's wing.

'It was really important that we started the game like we started the game,' Klopp said.

'They are so strong and so good with the ball. We changed the system because we expected a change from them. Neymar on the left wing and Di Maira in the half space, so made defending a bit difficult

'We needed all our focus. We did really well. We covered a lot of yards and closed gaps. When we had the ball we used the right wing. Neymar is a world class player, but not defender so we tried to do that.'

Neymar did not get on the scoresheet, and only showed flashes of his brilliance, setting up Kylian Mbappe to score PSG's equaliser.

The late win puts Liverpool top of Group C after Napoli could only draw with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

And Klopp was particularly happy with the contribution of goalscorer Sturridge, who started his first game of the season, and his first Champions League match in six years.

'Daniel played a super game,' he said. 'I have never seen him as fit as he is in the moment.

'He was everywhere. He helped left and right and he was in the box when he was needed.

'Then you can bring Bobby Firmino on and that helps a lot. I loved his goal celebration.'
