Danny Drinkwater has been omitted from Chelsea's squad for their upcoming Europa League campaign.
The 28-year-old has failed to make Chelsea's matchday squad for all four of their Premier League games so far this season and has now seen his chances of getting playing time cut even further as he is not registered to play in Europe.
Chelsea will face BATE, PAOK and Videoton in Group L.
Drinkwater was signed from Leicester City for £35 million last summer but made only 22 appearances under Antonio Conte after he arrived at Stamford Bridge with a calf injury.
Maurizio Sarri reportedly told the midfielder that he could leave Chelsea towards the end of the summer transfer window but he was unable to secure a move away.
Leicester and Southampton have both been linked with loan moves in the January window.
With Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic joining Chelsea in the summer, plus the return of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, Drinkwater faces an uphill battle to win a place in Sarri's midfield.

Elsewhere, Callum Hudson-Odoi is not on Chelsea's first-team list for their Europa League campaign but the 17-year-old is registered as a B List player for the youth fixtures, which means he can be promoted to the senior squad on the day of the game.
Ethan Ampadu has to be registered on the first-team list for the Europa League as a non-homegrown player as he has been at Chelsea for less than two years.
