Paul Pogba 'can't understand' how Manchester United lost to Tottenham

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is at a loss to explain how the Red Devils conspired to concede three-second half goals in Monday night's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils were well on top in the first half at Old Trafford and should have gone ahead when Romelu Lukaku rounded Hugo Lloris, though the Belgian striker's shot dragged wide of the far post.

But Spurs upped their game after the restart and ripped through United's backline, with Harry Kane's header and a brace from Lucas Moura securing a thumping 3-0 win.

Afterwards, Pogba could scarcely believe that United had suffered such a heavy loss after a largely promising performance, and he has backed the team to respond against Burnley.

'Even we don't understand,' Pogba told RMC Sport after the match. 'We started the game really well, and we concede two goals in the second half. That was tough to take.

'The first goal, we did not understand, because we had the match in our hands. One goal, two goals... we continued to push, we had chances, and then we concede the third.'

He continued: 'Our fans were still pushing us. We are really sorry for them, and really disappointed, we wanted to do better.

'I think that this is a defeat that we did not deserve. When you want something... football can be cruel. We just have to bounce back.

'It will not be easy but it is only the beginning of the season. We are going to continue, you should not be worried. We are Manchester United and we will never give up.'
