Real Madrid prepare late swoop for PSG star Kylian Mbappe as Ronaldo replacement

Real Madrid are still working on a marquee signing to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and believe they have a shot at signing Kylian Mbappe before the window closes, according to reports.

The Spanish giants made the surprise decision to accept an £88m offer from Juventus for Ronaldo at the start of the summer, though did not replace him in the transfer market - with Gareth Bale stepping up for the side at the start of the season.

But Spanish newspaper Marca report that Madrid are preparing a move for Mbappe in the event that PSG are found to have violated Financial Fair Play rules.

The French side have until Monday to exercise the £160million purchase option in Mbappe's contract, having originally signed on loan from Monaco.

UEFA must resolve PSG's FFP situation by August 30, and if they are in breach of the rules they may be unable to sign Mbappe - or forced to sell him as soon as they trigger their purchase option, potentially for a profit.

Real president Florentino Perez is already primed to move for Mbappe should that be the case, even though Madrid could have just 24 hours to complete what would be a record deal for the club.

Thibaut Courtois is the biggest signing Real have made this summer, while they also recruited the likes of Alvaro Odriozola and Vinicius Junior in big-money deals.

But Mbappe is the player Perez really wants, and the club believe he could lead their attack for the next decade.

The Frenchman, named the best young player at the World Cup, has already netted twice for PSG in Ligue 1 this season, while he scored 13 times and registered eight assists in just 24 starts last year.
