Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a knee injury.
The Belgian star is facing up to three months on the sidelines after sustaining suspected ligament damage during a training session on Wednesday afternoon.
Kevin De Bruyne only had a short break after the World Cup before returning to action
De Bruyne is set to undergo a scan, but it is feared the injury is similar to the one he suffered in early 2016, which kept him out of action for ten weeks.
Losing the 27-year-old for any period of time will come as a major blow to Pep Guardiola's plans.
De Bruyne was City's best player last season as they stormed to the Premier League title, featuring in all but one of their matches.
Having helped Belgium to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, De Bruyne only returned to training with City last week.
He was named on the bench for the opening game of the season, against Arsenal on Sunday, and played the final 30 minutes of the 2-0 win.
Kevin De Bruyne came on as a substitute on the opening day of the season
The former Chelsea and Wolfsburg man was in line to make his first start against Huddersfield this weekend.
Guardiola, though, could now have to do without one of his key men for up to three months.
A City statement read: "Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday.
"The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course."
As well as a number of Premier League matches, De Bruyne is also set to miss the start of City's Champions League campai
