Alexandre Lacazette opens up on strike partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Alexandre Lacazette is hopeful he can form a fruitful strike partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal this season.

The pair are going into their second season at the north London club, following on from their big-money moves from Lyon and Borussia Dortmund.

Lacazette bagged 17 goals for Arsenal during the last campaign, while Aubameyang scored 10 in 14 games since signing for the club in January.

However, since the arrival of the Gabon international, there were fears Lacazette would lose his place in the side and subsequently restrict his performances.

'I never said Aubameyang's arrival was bad for me, only people in the press said it was bad,' said Lacazette.

'I was happy because I knew I could play with him. I didn't see him as a rival more than a team-mate, so since the beginning I was happy about his signature.

'Of course, it's good that we have a good relationship off the pitch. If people are good off the pitch, on the pitch it will be easier to play.'

Arsenal begin their 2018/19 season with a difficult home tie against Manchester City on August 12.

The north London club then travel to Stamford Bridge on August 18 to take on Chelsea.
