Manchester United could announce the signing of Fred on Tuesday with the Red Devils expecting to complete the capture of the Brazil star in the next 48 hours.
Jose Mourinho has identified the Shakhtar Donetsk star as a replacement for Michael Carrick and United have moved quickly to get their man after late interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old has been in the UK this week with the Brazil national squad and is currently in the north-west for his country's friendly against Croatia at Anfield.
Fred claimed last month that he would resolve his future after the World Cup but his representatives are now in the UK and will finalise his move to Old Trafford, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United hope to hold his medical in the next day or two and could feasibly announce the signing on Tuesday.
Fred will sign a four-year deal with the option of another 12 months and the transfer will be worth around £52m.
The midfielder is expected to be the first of potentially five signings this summer with Mourinho targeting a second midfielder, a left-back, a centre-back and a back-up forward.
Manchester City were close to signing Fred in January but ended their interest after the midfielder's hefty wage demands.
Pep Guardiola's side now hope to sign Napoli star Jorginho.
