Tottenham will ask Manchester United to incorporate Anthony Martial in Toby Alderweireld's proposed move to Old Trafford, reports say.
Jose Mourinho is determined to bolster his defensive options this summer and Belgium international Alderweireld has emerged as his top target.
Alderweireld, who joined Spurs in 2015 from Atletico Madrid, is rated as one of the most talented defenders in Europe but has fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 29-year-old will not sign a new contract at Tottenham and is expected to sign for Manchester United before the World Cup in Russia starts.
But Spurs want to get the best deal possible from Alderweireld's departure and The Sun say they are looking into signing French forward Martial as part of the switch.
Martial has been strongly linked with a move over the past year and a number of clubs have expressed interest in securing his signature.
The 22-year-old cost United around £36million in 2015 but Mourinho has shown a lack of faith in the France international and is said to be willing to let him go.
Despite his recent struggles, it is claimed Pochettino sees Martial as an idea target and is confident he can revive his career at Spurs.
On Thursday, Pochettino committed his long-term future to Tottenham by signing a new five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.
'I am honoured to have signed a new long-term contract as we approach one of the most significant periods in the club's history and be the manager that will lead this team into our new world-class stadium,' he said.
'This is a special club - we always strive to be creative in the way we work both on and off the pitch and will continue to stick to our principles in order to achieve the success this club deserves.'
