Real Madrid's board have told Zinedine Zidane they will not be pursuing a transfer move for Chelsea star Eden Hazard, according to reports in Spain.
Zidane is a long-time admirer of Hazard, whose father last week told Belgian newspaper Le Soir that his son had rejected Chelsea's latest contract offer and was waiting for Real to make their move.
But, according to Marca, Real's directors have no intention of spending big money on Hazard while Marco Asensio is still at the club and being under-used by Zidane.
Asensio, a fan favourite at the Bernabeu, has often been relegated to the bench this season despite being one of few Real players to go through the campaign without picking up any injuries.
He has nine starts in La Liga - though has only completed 90 minutes on six occasions - while he was named in the starting XI just once in the Champions League, against minnows APOEL.
And, despite links with Hazard, Real's decision-makers believe Zidane's priority should be developing Asensio and trusting him in more big matches.
But were Hazard to join, the 21-year-old's first-team opportunities will only decrease further, and Real are keen to see him involved more in the second half of the campaign after falling 14 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona.
A report from The Sun, meanwhile, has suggested that Chelsea are bracing themselves for a £120 million offer from Real for Hazard.
Even that would not be enough for Chelsea to sanction a deal, though, with the Blues ready to make Hazard the highest paid player in the Premier League by offering him a bumper £300,000-a-week salary.
