According to a The Nation report, Justice O.A Faji of a Federal High Court sitting in the Asaba Judicial Division has sentenced a father and son to 14 and 10 years imprisonment respectively over possession, production, sale and manufacture of local gin popularly known as Ogogoro and storage of the product in unsanitary condition.
The convicts were arraigned in 2015 on a five- count charge contrary to section 1 of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Food (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act. CAP C34 LFN 2004.
Justice Faji sentenced Jonathan Uti, 58, on counts 1 and 2 to seven years in imprisonment without option of fine.
Isaac Uti, 28, was also sentenced to five years imprisonment on counts 1and 2.
The judge also sentenced the father to 18 months imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of N250, 000 on count 5, while the son was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment without fine.
The jail terms are to run concurrently.
