On Saturday, the Super Eagles defeated Zambia in Uyo to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It wasn't an easy match but Alex Iwobi came through with the only goal that gave Nigeria the much-needed 13 points.
While we're still hyped about what will be the Super Eagles' fifth appearance at the World Cup, it's only safe to ask, "What next?"
And, this question isn't really too early considering that we've seen the Super Eagles play in the past with so much promise and vigour only to flop at the most critical times. Our World Cup record says enough.
However, braving the "group of death" (which includes big names in African football like Cameroon, Algeria, and Zambia) to become the first African country to qualify for the World Cup might just be a sign that Nigeria means business as far as Russia is concerned.
Former Green Eagles goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala, is thinking along these lines too. Positive that Russia will be more than Nigerians expect from the Super Eagles, he said:
"With the present crop of players, the future looks bright for the Super Eagles, even at the 2018 FIFA World Cup proper.
They stop at nothing, except success. The way they played against Zambia showed that uncommon commitment to make the country proud."
