A Mathematics teacher identified as Mr. Imoh Brownson Okpo has died while on his way to supervise NECO examination at Community Secondary School, Ikot Esenam, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.
The man who also taught Physics and Chemistry died in a road accident that took place last month. Mr. Okpo, 47 will be committed to mother earth after a funeral service by Sabbath Day Church of God at his residence, Ikot Obio Itong in Akwa Ibom on Friday, 25th August, 2017.
Until his death, he taught Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in different schools including the prestigious Esetang High School, Ekim and his last, Father Fintans Memorial Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Ntot, both in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area..
Harrison Essien, a journalist who shared the story on Facebook wrote:
"The remains of the late Mr. Imoh Brownson Okpo, a Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry teacher in Akwa Ibom State, who was crushed to death on his way to supervise the just concluded NECO examination, will be buried this Friday, 25th August, 2017.
Aged 47, the late Mr. Okpo, will be committed to mother earth after a funeral service by Sabbath Day Church of God at his residence, Ikot Obio Itong, before the Federal Government Girls' College, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area from 10am.
He died in a road accident on his way for NECO exams at Community Secondary School, Ikot Esenam, Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
Born on 15th August, 1970, Mr Okpo, a native of Ekim in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, is a graduate of Physics Education from the University of Uyo (1993-1997).
He thereafter went for the mandatory National Youth Service and passed out on 9th February, 2000. The physicist joined the service of Akwa Ibom State Government on 29th January, 2002.
Until his death, he taught Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in different schools including the prestigious Esetang High School, Ekim and his last, Father Fintans Memorial Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Ntot, both in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The late Mr Okpo is survived by a wife, Inemesit and two kids: Miss Blessing Imoh Brownson and Master Unwana Imoh Brownson.
In the meantime, the Esetang High School Ekim Old Students Association, EHSEOSA, has described the death of its Financial Secretary, Mr. Imoh Brownson Okpo as a great loss to humanity.
The President of the Alumni Association, Comrade Emmanuel Udoh, M.A, in statement issued by the Secretary, Harrison Essien said the late teacher will be sorely missed for his passion, commitment and contributions to the growth of the teaching profession.
The statement requests the presence of all old students of Esetang High School at the funeral service of their departed teacher and mentor."
