Barcelona bid of £114m for Philippe Coutinho rejected by Liverpool

Liverpool have rejected a new and improved bid for Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, understood to be worth a staggering £114million.

It is the third bid made by the Catalan club who are desperate for reinforcements following the sale of Neymar.

Coutinho has been eyed by the La Liga side as an ideal addition, leading to Barcelona making a concerted effort to bring him to the Nou Camp. This is the third bid they've made, coming after an offer of £90m last week.

Liverpool have made it very clear they have no intention of selling the Brazil international. They went as far as releasing a public statement last week to make that stance clear.

That triggered Coutinho, who arrived at the club in 2013 in an £8m deal from Inter Milan, to hand in a transfer request.

The latest offer would make Coutinho comfortably the second most expensive player in history behind the £198m PSG paid for Neymar and ahead of the £89m Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba.

Last season he scored 13 goals in 31 appearances as the Reds finished fourth in the Premier League.

He is yet to make an appearance this season as he's struggling with a back injury.
