Zinedine Zidane says Real Madrid are worse off after Alvaro Morata's move to Chelsea

Zinedine Zidane admits Real Madrid are worse off without Alvaro Morata following the striker's move to Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has become the most expensive Spanish footballer of all time after joining Stamford Bridge in a deal that could cost up to £70 million.

Morata has admitted that he was keen to leave Real Madrid this summer after failing to secure a regular role under Zidane.

The striker started just 18 games in all competitions last season but still managed to score 20 goals.

And Zidane has indicated that Madrid will need to find a replacement ahead of the new campaign.

Asked if his side are worse off after Morata's departure, the Madrid boss replied: 'Definitely. We saw what he did last year, he played very well and brought a lot to the team.

'It's the way it is, Alvaro has gone and we're lacking a striker at the moment.

'We'll see what we're going to do about it.'
