WhatsApp is without a doubt one of the most widely used cross-platform messaging services in the world. Billions of people use WhatsApp every single day to stay in touch with their friends and family and even conduct business. If WhatsApp suddenly stopped working on your device today, perhaps you forgot about an important announcement the Facebook-owned service made last year.
WhatsApp announced back in February last year that it's going to stop supporting the app on very old iterations of the popular mobile operating systems. If you have a handset that's running on an OS that's on the list, then you are no aware why your WhatsApp has stopped working today out of the blue.
"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," WhatsApp said in a blog post back then.
This cross-platform messaging service will no longer work on devices powered by Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, iOS 6/iPhone 3GS as well as Windows Phone 7 starting today. BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian S60, and Nokia S40 operating systems are not safe from this fate as well, but those who are on these versions have until June 30th 2017 to upgrade to a new device.
The messaging service launched some cool new features last year that require an advanced operating system, features like video calling, so if you want the full WhatsApp experience, you best be ready to buy a new device.
